Vaidava Civil Parish
Territory: 71.9 km2
Population: 1121 ( According to the data of Citizenship and Migration Department as of 01.01.2009) Vaidava parish was formed in 1894, when Podzeni, Velki, Brinki and Vaidava parishes were joined together. The biggest part of the parish is inside the territory of the Gauja National park. There is Metimne (Vaidava castle mound) on the 22 m high coast of the Vaidava lake. Some historians believe that this was the location of the ancient Beverina castle. Nearby, there is a stone with a cigar shaped cavity and the popular Health spring . Other popular places to visit are Patkula (Stoku cave, the length - 30 m), Kaleju (Striku) cave (50 m), Vaidava estate houses, the Swedish pine, Sietiniezis. The 2 larch-tree alleys - Podzeni and Pelmeni alleys are the longest of this kind in Latvia and are included in the list of National heritage. The Vaidava lake is a popular swimming place. There is also an open air stage and a camping site. Tourists can visit a Chair museum in Lejasbregzi. There is a culture centre with a big hall (350 seats), a library, primary classes of Rubene elementary school and a big sports hall in the same building, Vaidava elementary boarding school for children with special needs, a post-office, a medical service and 2 shops. A local museum "Meldri" is a farmstead where visitors can get acquainted with different ancient agricultural equipment and working tools used in agriculture and household. The biggest enterprises in the parish are "P.A.B." (forage production), Private company "Leo" (wood processing -carpentry), farms "Elzes", "Silkalni", horse farm "Dzērves'', country tourism farms "Denderi", "Ezergribiesi'', "Raceni" and a pottery enterprise "Rebeka".
