Berzaine Civil Parish

Berzaine civil parish is located in Talava lowland, Burtnieki plain. There are several lakes: Ziluza lake, Saules lake, overgrown Velna lake, and the rivers: Briede, Ezupite and Budze.

According to records, the first mention of Berzaine was in 1927, when the first Civil Guard centre was built near the new Burtnieki estate house. The place was named Bērzaine because of the birch tree alley which led to the manor-house.

There is Jaunburtnieki primary school in Berzaine parish. It was built in 1939. Money for construction was donated by local peasants, and at that time the school was one of the most spectacular in the state. The school is proud of the renovation carried out over the last few years: the restored roof cover, new windows and repainted facade. The school staff works hard to provide excellent learning and leisure conditions for children. Learning, cultural and sports activities take place in small groups.

The most remarkable nature and culture-historical objects: Davini big stone, Davini small stone, Davini-Noriesi hill, Jaunburtnieki cemetery, burial ground with a cross stone, Purmali,Sauliesi and Lanti burial grounds.
